Free legal advice clinics roll into town

Castleford, Pontefract and Knottingley residents will be able to obtain free legal advice when a series of clinics hit the region next week.

The Raleys Advice Clinics have been organised to make legal expertise in industrial illness and personal injury available to people who might be suffering from a range of conditions through no fault of their own, but who find the idea of going to a solicitor too daunting or potentially expensive.

Raleys Solicitors, experts in personal injury law for more than 100 years, will be holding a series of free legal clinics offering advice on whether someone could or should make compensation claims for anything ranging from work-related accidents and occupational diseases, to injuries from road accidents or slips and trips.

Carol Gill, managing partner with Raleys Solicitors, said there were thousands of people across the region who suffered pain and discomfort every day, but who had not sought legal advice for one reason or another.

“Our aim is to come right into the heart of the community and let people have access to our expert advice, and this clinic will offer people the chance to have an initial consultation free of charge,” she said.

“We know from personal experience that many of the people who live in the area used to work in heavy industry, and there are a frightening number of illnesses people can develop simply by going to work. Our teams will be on hand to answer questions about whether someone could make a claim, whether they should be taking legal action, and the best way to make their lives easier.”

The Raleys Advice Clinics will run from 10am until 7pm at the following venues:
  • Monday 24 August – St. Mary’s Community Centre, The Circle, Pontefract
  • Tuesday 25 August - The Glasshoughton Centre, Leeds Road, Castleford
  • Wednesday 26 August - Knottingley Sports Centre, Hill Top, Knottingley.

Carol added: “We want to make sure that anyone who is suffering through no fault of their own – be it from a work-related illness or from being involved in an accident – knows just what their rights are, and what they might be entitled to.”
