It's a wrap - film of award-winning Barnsley programme is in the can
A film about the award-winning Barnsley FC school outreach programme Toby’s Terriers has been launched and is available to view online.
Media students from Barnsley College have been working alongside Barnsley FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust (BFCCSET) to provide a visual insight into what football-themed initiative Toby’s Terriers is all about.
Their finished video illustrates how sessions are delivered at local primary schools, and how pupils benefit from taking part. Raleys Solicitors, lead sponsors of Toby’s Terriers, have also contributed to the video to highlight the importance of businesses in the area backing community projects of this kind.
Managing partner of Raleys Solicitors Carol Gill said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed supporting the Toby’s Terriers and are very proud to have played a part in its success reaching out to so many young people in and around Barnsley.
“This video is testament to all the hard work which has gone on over the past three years and will hopefully help to attract further backing.”
Toby’s Terriers was launched in September 2006. Qualified coaches visit schools for four-week cycles, with sessions taking the place of regular PE activity for a given morning or afternoon one day each week. A total of 60 local schools have so far benefited from the programme.
Wayne Bullimore, chief executive of BFCCSET, commented: “This video is an excellent tool for us to use in marketing the programme to youngsters and it will hopefully encourage more sponsors to follow the example of Raleys Solicitors and back the programme.”
The Trust will pay a donation towards future equipment purchases to thank the college for its support.
Curriculum and quality leader Sam Wilson, who has led the project for the Media Department at Barnsley College, said: “The film does an excellent job of illustrating how vital projects like Toby’s Terriers are to the community. Our students have relished the chance to get behind the camera and document the project.
“I think we have arrived at a high quality film that showcases this fantastic programme and the skills of Barnsley College’s talented students.”
