Apology or Compensation?

Most people have tremendous sympathy for those working in the medical profession and many recognise that doctors, nurses and other types of practitioners often have to work in far from ideal conditions with limited resources. If you believe you have suffered from negligent treatment it is only right that you should receive a proper explanation about what took place. Where appropriate you should receive an apology and/or compensation to go some way towards acknowledging your pain and suffering and to replace lost earnings and other financial losses or to pay for ongoing care.

If you have suffered injury or your condition has deteriorated due to medical negligence you need expert legal advice to recover the proper level of compensation.

The Medical Negligence Team

We have specialist teams of lawyers at both our Barnsley office and our Wakefield office.

Medical negligence is a very specialised and complex area of law. It requires a sophisticated combination of legal skills and medical understanding, coupled with a sympathetic approach. With this in mind you should know that Raleys:

  • Are officially ranked as one of the top firms for their medical negligence team
  • Have team leaders Jim Gladman and Suzanne Goodall approved by Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) as specialists in medical negligence claims
  • Are one of a few firms in the area to be approved by the Legal Services Commission (formerly the Legal Aid Board) to conduct Clinical (Medical) Negligence actions so that we can obtain Public Funding (formerly Legal Aid) for viable claims
  • Have a team of nine lawyers and a nurse dedicated to assisting clients with medical negligence claims
  • Have been involved in many complex medical negligence cases and won high levels of compensation in a number of high profile cases
  • Will help and advise you on the best way of funding your claim
  • Will visit you at home or in hospital in appropriate circumstances

“Raleys handled some significant cases in 2006, notably winning admission of liability in two high-value cerebral palsy cases, one in excess of £7.5m. The team also advised on a high-profile, well-publicised wrongful birth case against Leeds Teaching Hospital, and settled a high-value, index-linked negligence case against Barnsley District Hospital… clients would ‘not hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a professional and sympathetic person in a very complex field of work’.” Legal 500 2007

Group Actions

Raleys are also part of a select national panel of specialist solicitors who have been appointed by the Legal Services Commission (LSC) to the Multi-Party Action (MPA) Solicitors’ Panel Group Actions. These are claims in a group action by a number of people who have suffered injury or disease at the same time or in similar circumstances.

Only 22 firms in England and Wales are on the LSC MPA Panel. To join the Panel each firm has to show recent substantial involvement in the coordination or management of at least three group actions.

Raleys have been involved in group actions involving medical negligence claims:-
