Court of Protection

What happens if a relative cannot manage their affairs?

You may be having difficulty accessing their bank account, paying their bills, or dealing with their investments or savings. The Data Protection laws may mean that you are unable to obtain even basic information about their affairs.

In this situation, the only option available is for you to make an application to the Court of Protection. The Court will decide if you can manage your relative’s affairs and determine what you can and cannot do.

The costs of such an application would be met from your relative’s assets; you would not have to pay towards this.
