Introduction

Raleys was set up in 1883 and has represented miners in Yorkshire ever since, firstly through the Yorkshire Association of Mineworkers and later the National Union of Mineworkers (Yorkshire Area)

Raleys presently represent the Yorkshire and Lancashire Areas of the NUM.   Raleys are also pleased to have a long association with NACODS and presently represent their members nationally.

We are committed to fighting for the rights and protecting the interests of ordinary men and women by concentrating our business entirely on their needs. To protect this focus we will not act for employers, we do not act for private business. This gives our Union clients the following advantages:

  • The undivided attention of the firm at partnership level.
  • Commitment of our resources to providing a quality service to trade unions and their members.
  • Support for the aims of the trade union movement.
  • A consistent message to members of our commitment to them.

Services presently offered are:-

  • Advice and representation in employment disputes and personal injury matters.
  • General legal advice to Union officials
  • Representation of the Union in litigation
  • Training for Union officials.
  • Sponsorship of Union events or matters of interest to the Union.

We pride ourselves in offering a personal service. There are many suppliers of legal services who have “rationalised” (i.e. cut) their services in search of “efficiency” (i.e. ever greater profits). In place of representation by questionnaire we will continue to interview clients personally.

We believe that the future of trade union legal services is in quality, where the standard of service provided by the solicitor reflects the principles of mutual care and support that are fundamental to trade unionists everywhere.

And what’s more we can say so in public, without worrying about upsetting our business clients.
